About the salary calculator
The salary calculator is a free online tool that converts a monthly salary into an approximate annual, weekly, daily and hourly amount. It is designed for employees, freelancers, job seekers and anyone who needs a quick estimate of what a monthly salary looks like across different time periods.
Salary figures can be presented in different ways depending on the employer, the industry and the country. A job offer may quote a monthly amount, while a contract may quote a daily or hourly rate. The salary calculator helps you compare these figures on a consistent basis.
The results are estimates based on the values entered and the standard assumptions described in this page. They do not account for taxes, pension contributions, insurance, allowances or other deductions that may apply.
How to use this salary calculator
Using the calculator requires a single piece of information: your monthly salary.
- Enter your monthly gross salary in Nigerian naira.
- Review the estimated annual, weekly, daily and hourly amounts.
- Adjust the figure if your working schedule differs from the defaults.
The results update automatically as you type, so you can try different amounts and compare them quickly.
Salary calculation formula
The calculator uses simple multiplication and division based on standard averages for weeks and working days per year.
Annual salary = Monthly salary × 12
Weekly salary = Monthly salary ÷ 4.33
Daily rate = Monthly salary ÷ 21.67
Hourly rate = Daily rate ÷ 8
The value 4.33 represents the average number of weeks in a month, calculated by dividing 52 weeks by 12 months. The value 21.67 represents the average number of working days in a month, calculated by dividing 260 working days by 12 months.
These averages smooth out the differences between months of different lengths and provide a consistent estimate across the year.
Understanding the results
Annual gross salary
The annual gross salary is the estimated total amount earned over twelve months before any tax or deductions. It is calculated by multiplying the monthly salary by twelve.
Weekly earnings
The weekly earnings estimate divides the monthly salary by the average number of weeks in a month (approximately 4.33). This is a useful figure when comparing weekly or biweekly payment cycles.
Daily rate
The daily rate divides the monthly salary by the average number of working days in a month (approximately 21.67), assuming a five-day working week. Employers who pay daily or who need to calculate a partial month's pay often use this kind of figure.
Hourly rate
The hourly rate divides the daily rate by eight, assuming an eight-hour working day. This figure is useful for contractors, part-time workers and anyone comparing a salary to an hourly contract.
When this salary calculator is useful
The calculator can be helpful in several common situations.
- Comparing a monthly salary offer with an annual figure quoted elsewhere.
- Estimating an hourly or daily rate for freelance or contract work.
- Checking whether a job offer matches your income expectations.
- Planning a personal or household budget from a known monthly income.
- Preparing a simple income estimate for loan or rent applications.
Because the calculator works with gross figures, it is best used as a starting point. Actual take-home pay depends on the tax rules and deductions that apply to your situation.
Limitations of the calculation
The calculator provides estimates only. The following factors are not included in the results shown.
- Income tax and any other statutory deductions.
- Pension, health insurance or other employee contributions.
- Employer-provided allowances, bonuses or overtime.
- Unpaid leave, public holidays or reduced working hours.
- Regional differences in working days or standard hours.
